Assessing which cycling tour is a good fit for you
Before you commit to any of our tours, it is extemely important that you have a thorough appreciation of the physical demands of the each tour. Being informed and well-prepared is essential, both for your own enjoyment and the cohesion of the tour group. Some of the things you MUST assess before you sign up are: your fitness and endurance level, your cycling experience and (perhaps most importantly), your skill and confidence for tackling long mountain descents. Each of our tours is rated and your own level should be honestly assessed against the rating for your chosen tour. See the rating scale we use for each tour HERE
Assessing ones own suitability comes down to a few factors and you should honestly assess each of these; years of riding experience, weekly mileage and climbing metres, descending skill and confidence and ability to ride safely and confidently in a group. If you are in any doubt about this, please contact us for more information. Our top level tours (Hors category) for example would require riders to be doing 400+km each week with 4000-7000m of climbing, a VERY high level of descending skill and 5+ years of experience riding at this level. The cohesion and safety of all cycling tours is partly dependent on riders being well matched to the demands of the riding and the level of the rest of the group.
